Going with the same theme as yesterday: Today’s topic is a powerful tool in “building up” your husband and in turn, “building up” your home ....
This is a topic that seems self explanatory on the surface. I’m sure alot of us already pray for our husbands, however, there is a huge difference in just praying “generalizations” (Lord, help my husband today...) and praying actual ”specifications”—
There have been many books written and sermons taught on the subject...but unfortunately alot of times, we don’t actually do it—pray fervently for our husbands:
Like I mentioned yesterday, we often underestimate our power as a wife. We can be an incredible influence on our husbands by simply praying wholeheartedly for him.
Now this doesn’t mean to have an attitude or be self righteous and pray with ulterior motives...that’s shallow and self serving! No, what I’m talking about is so much more deeper emotional and spiritually.
Here are a few ideas of specific things to pray for your husband.
Pray for his day—that he would have a wonderful day and he would feel the Lord draw close to Him.
Pray for his health—that God will strengthen his body and keep him healthy. (or if he has a sickness–that God would send healing on his behalf.
Pray he will be obedient to the Lord and sensitive to His Spirit.
Pray the Bible over him (Prov. 3:5-6 is a good one)
Pray specifically for the current situations in your lives whatever that may be.
Pray for the challenges/difficulties he is facing.
Pray for his fears and insecurities.
Pray for his work/job—that he would be a hard worker and he would be fulfilled in the work he is doing. Pray he will be a light for Jesus in this this dark world.
Pray he would have spiritual strength to be a Godly man in the midst of a sinful world. Pray that God would give him discernment to avoid any traps/pitfalls. Pray that God will give him strong convictions and a moral compass that won’t be detoured by outside influence...
Pray for your husband to lead you and your family. Although your husband is the head of the home, there is tremendous pressure on him to lead your family in the ways of the Lord. A Godly man realizes that his actions/decisions will affect not only him, but you and the children as welI. So pray for the Lord to give him daily direction and wisdom his decision-making.
Pray that his spiritual walk with the Lord will grow and he will become more like Christ.
Pray for his role as a husband, father, and leader. The roles he plays are all very influential. A father’s influence can make or break a child. Pray for your husband as father that God would use him to shape your children’s lives in HIS image.
Pray for his relationships with others—whether it be family, in-laws, children, church members/pastor, even coworkers. We need relationships and we must keep working on building stronger healthy relationships with those around us... Pray that the Lord give him grace, patience, and forbearance with those who try his spirit.
Pray for his protection—that God would put angels about him and guard him. (Psalm 91)
Pray for his future—that God would bless him, anoint him and use him for HIS Glory—in whatever avenue He see fit.
Pray for his peace—that God would give him peace of mind, peace of soul, and peace of spirit and let him rest in HIS Spirit from the overwhelming pressures of life.
Pray for the presence of Christ in your home and your marriage. Pray that God will use your marriage as a testimony of His power and His unity. God ordained marriage and it is symbolic of HIS love towards us.
Pray that your husband will be an postive influence on other young men and be a mentor to help someone else learn to be a Godly man and follow the Lord.
This is just a few specific prayers we can pray for our husbands.
A wife that is truly praying earnestly for her husband won’t be nitpicking and nagging him. We can’t change our husbands by nagging him, acting like we have more wisdom than he does, or treating him like a child. Our power lies in submitting to him, whether we agree or not, trusting that God will take care of the rest. Through prayer, we can make our petitions known before God and earnestly pray for God to guide and direct our husbands’ paths.
You will be surprised at the difference using this “tool” of prayer will make in strengthening your marriage and in building in your home!!
