Father’s Day

Updated: Jun 18, 2023

Father’s Day is a day set aside to honor and show appreciation for some of the most wonderful men in our lives. I, myself, have been blessed to have had some amazing men helping shape and mold my life. My dad was always there growing up to listen and to help us with our problems. He was a perfect example of a servant. He worked hard for his family, often working extra hours or a second side job, to make sure we were well taken care of but even though that is memorable and admirable, what stands out most of all, is all the times he took vacation and took us to youth camps and other youth outings. I can honestly say that as a child and teenager, I never truly appreciated the sacrifices that our parents made to ensure we had the best opportunities to get in the presence of God. My parents took the time to get involved in whatever my brother and I were into. They were always there with us and for us. They were always doing something for the church or for someone in need. They taught us the joy of servitude--and most often, they included us in whatever they were doing and we had lots of fun doing it! They taught us by example whether it was prayer, daily Bible reading, or helping someone out. We have been blessed to have had such great leadership in our lives.

Another wonderful example on this Father’s Day was my pappaw Fred.

This little article could never contain all the wonderful things we have been taught from this dear old saint of God. He was very instrumental in our lives. He showed us what faith looks like in action. He lived in faith and when the time came to cross over, he died in faith. He showed us that having faith didn't mean you never fight fear, but when it comes, how to gird up your mind and put on the Lord Jesus Christ (whether it be having someone write scriptures and hanging them all over the room and when fear starts knocking, to verbally say and go through all the verses hanging around the room until fear has to take flight or just singing an old gospel tune to keep your mind stayed on Him) Pappaw knew his help was in Jesus and Jesus alone!! He lived his life in just that way—leaning on the Lord. What a Godly example!

I also want to thank God for my husband and the Godly example he is to our children. He leads by example. I have never questioned his devotion to God. No matter how tired he may be or how many hours he has worked, prayer and bible reading isn’t an option. It’s a must! I am so blessed to have such a wonderful husband and our children are blessed to have a Godly father who is doing his best to raise our children up in the admonition of the Lord.

Ladies, if you have a Godly husband trying to lead you and your children in the ways of God, don’t buck against him. Support that man! Encourage him! Pray for him! Our job is to be his helpmeet! That doesn’t mean to constantly nag him. Trying to use manipulation to get your way isn’t going to get you results. I assure you, there is power in submission and doing things the Bible way. The way we act and react can be either building up or tearing down-

Proverbs 14:1 - Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands. I want to be in the “wise” category !
