1 Peter 3:1-6 [1] … Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; [2] While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. [3] Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; [4] But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornaments of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price . [5] For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: [6] Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement
Reading those verses above sure don’t sound like they are talking a modern day “liberated” woman...
...ornaments of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price... I Peter 3:4
Go read Proverbs 31 while you are at it ...God puts a high premium/price on the character of a woman... if we are willing to pay the price and follow HIS word—we can become women after God’s own heart...
When we desire to please Him first and foremost, we will naturally try to do whatever we can to walk in His commandments...
This old world has down the drains- there is no truth anymore —no absolutes!! - we can see how messed the world is, we know this!! Yet, we, as women of God, often allow the world to set the tone for our lives... we are influenced by their fashion; we look to their design “trends” to make our house a home; we accept their philosophy for child rearing; we feel inadequate in the roles God designed for us to have and seek more “fulfilling” careers; we question our beliefs and values based on some secular study/poll or so-called expert authority; we become dissatisfied with our own homes, our own families, and our own lives based on a illusion or what seemly appears to be something better than what we currently possess. We strive to “get more, do more, and to BE more”! All because we have lost our focus on what
truly matters in life!
I John 2:15-17 says “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 ) For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.17 ) And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever
We must not allow the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, or the pride of life to dwell in us. The Word of God plainly tells us not to ‘Love the World or even the things in it’—that those spirits (lust of flesh, lust of eyes, and pride of life) are not of the Father but of the world. This old world is going to pass away along with everything in it but if we can do the will of God and love His commandments, we will have everlasting life and an eternity forever with Him.
There isn’t anything in this world worth hanging on to and missing out on an eternity with Him.
Colossians 3:2–Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Jeremiah 6:16–Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls...
We have to ask for the old paths!! It is a GOOD way!! If we will walk in that way, we are promised rest for our souls!!!
Go read Jeremiah chapter 6. In this chapter, we can see how Israel was straying away from the principles that it was founded on. Through Scripture, we can see it over and over again— God has mercy and delivers the children of Israel, only to have them rebel against HIS ways, look to the world for inspiration and follow after their leading— completely forgetting everything the Lord had done for them previously... (Sound familiar? )
Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited—Jeremiah 6:8
To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear isuncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.—Jeremiah 6:10
I sure don’t want the Lord to depart from me. I don’t want the Lord to make me a desolation because I refused to get under His leadership!
I don’t want the Word of the Lord to be a reproach for me!! I want to “delight” in it!!
We must once again “ask for the old paths”!! We don’t need a new “better way”!
Sisters, I encouraged you to quit looking to the world for inspiration and answers for your life’s questions....instead starting looking to Jesus— the author and finisher of our Faith!! God doesn’t change!! He is the same, yesterday, and forever! He doesn’t change!! what worked “way back when“ will still work for us today!!
It still works!!
