A few of my favorite things

Ok… this is kinda a different type of post for me but I enjoy reading this type of content myself so hopefully, this isn’t too weird or “off the wall”… but I think it’s still relevant content for homemakers!

Every one of us have things in our homes and in our lives that just enhance our everyday routines, make things either easier, beautify our space or make it enjoyable.

Some of my “favorite things” listed below are practical and basic but nevertheless, they contribute to improving the overall function and enjoyability of my home/life…

So without further ado, let’s get into it.

Here are a few of my top favorite things right now…

My Journaling KJV Bible

I absolutely love this Bible! (My daughter recently asked me a question… “Mom, if the house caught on fire and we all were safe but you could stop and grab only one single thing, what would it be??” Without hesitation, I replied “my Bible”. Everything else can be replaced. My Bible, however, can not. (Oh, I know I could buy a new one but it wouldn’t be the same) My journaling Bible is my most prized physical possession!!

If Bible journaling/doodling seem daunting for you, don’t fret. I personally use this Bible as my “church” Bible. Every service, I write down the date, who ministered, what church I am at ( yes, I take it to other meetings!), what they preached on, and any extra sermon notes/doodles to go with the message in the wide margins in the Bible in the section where the preacher reads their main text. This is a treasure trove to comb back through after years and years of doing this!

Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

(I am going to write a separate post of the benefits of Bible journaling/ note taking soon! So, stay tuned for that ! )

My Bedroom and Living Room Lamps

(they have USB ports like hotels)

I love the convenience!

Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bedroom lamps (simple stick style)

Lighted Vanity Mirror

(this is a total game changer!) I used to be that person that never had a designated “hair fixing station”. I would just plop down in the floor in front of a full length mirror or whatever to fix my hair and my daughter’s hair. A couple years ago, my daughter saw a lighted vanity mirror and loved it! She asked her Gramma for one for her birthday. We removed the old attached mirror from her vintage dresser and her grampa painted her old dresser a glossy white (that alone breathed new life into that piece of furniture) and then, we added the lighted vanity mirror and wow! Just wow! Not only does it look wonderful, It has been so amazing to have a designated “hair station” in our house!! No more random bobby pins everywhere!!! Definitely would recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Air-fryer

I know many people are “on the fence” about owning this bulky kitchen appliance but it is a family favorite around here! It is a way more healthy way of cooking up those frozen snacks, pizza breads, etc. It is super quick and convenient. It allows my kids to be more self sufficient. They know how to operate it and can make themselves a quick lunch with very little effort. It is a “must have” at the Sizemore house! Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pots and Pans

Ok this one is a little bit broad. I have several favorites …lol 😂

I love my Cast Iron Lodge Pans for cooking up meat, gravies, sautéed veggies, etc.

I use these almost daily!!

Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10.25”size —https://amzn.to/3niVOMm 12” size—https://amzn.to/30PTx3R

Deep Skillet-10.25-inch” https://amzn.to/3E02K7W

But…

I love my copper coated pan for cooking up eggs, though…(cooks amazing… easy clean up…doesn’t stick at all when used in conjunction with cooking spray) A must have!

Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ https://amzn.to/30EDqpC

I just use cheap stainless steel pots for all my “sides/veggies/soup” style pots… they work perfectly and are dishwasher safe!! Definitely a win for me!! https://amzn.to/3vw5fMl

Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Matching Glass Spice Jars

I have had these for a couple years now and I absolutely love them! They are great to just give your spice cabinet/drawer a little facelift… Little small changes make a bigger impact than you would imagine. Having matching clear glass containers for your spices makes your space feel more cohesive and high end. Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rugs

I love area rugs! Amazon has some very affordable options (area rugs can be so pricey!! But I think they really “make” a space!)

Here are a few of the ones I have around my own house.

Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Throw Pillows (Cases)

The throw pillow prices are outrageous and we women are fickle. What we “just loved” last week might only merit a “meh” this week… lol 😂 Thus, the invention of replaceable throw pillow covers is ingenious!! They are only a tiny fraction of the cost of replacing entire pillow and they fold super small/flat for easy storage if you like to change them out every season. There are so many options and colors on Amazon. Just search “throw pillow covers”

Here’s the links to few of mine (pictured above)

Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Plants

I love all things greenery!! Those cute little succulents and faux greenery in ceramic planters!!! Eeeee! I think they add such a cute element to a space. They give a otherwise boring room a pop of color.

Highly recommend these types of little touches to make a house a cozy hom. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

(I love real plants as well. I’m just not super talented as raising live plants. I have one pothos plant that I have had for years that has done amazing and I have made a bunch of baby starter plants off from it. So, there are multiple live plants in my house, but they all are just the same type of plant… Pothos plants seem to like my house. 😜)

Throw Blankets

I love having a basket of extra throw blankets in the corner of a room or by the sofa. I think it adds such a cozy vibe along with layering in multiple textures. I am the type of person that if I am lounging around, even if it’s summer time, I love having a throw tossed across my lap. 😜

Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This next one is a little bit strange but hear me out: in early 2020, when the world went crazy, my husband (like many others) got laid off. Well, he decided that he was going to take advantage of the situation with him being off work for an extended period of time and we were going to have a ton of outdoor family adventures—(which we did and it was amazing!)

However, we soon found out that these outdoor adventures posed a problem for us ladies who weren’t gifted with the “equipment” that makes ‘taking a tinkle’ in the woods a breeze. After an botched attempt (and an upset little girl), I knew I had to find a better way to make these adventures more pleasant in all aspects! Lol 😂 so I introduce to you….

A Drumroll, please …..

The PStyle

(I found a little cosmetic pouch to discreetly store it in and added some santiwipes for hygiene. It is surprisingly easy to use and very discreet.)

Just follow the instructions and it works perfectly! Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Enough said 😜

My cordless Shark Vacuum

This is a newer favorite! It is on the pricer end, but I think it’s worth it. (Amazon does sell manufacturer refurbished ones at a significant discount)

I got mine this year from my sweet hubby for Mother’s day! I absolutely love it !! It makes vacuuming the whole house so much easier. With the way our house is made, with my old corded sweeper, I would constantly have to switch plugins to vacuum the entire house. Having this cordless vacuum greatly reduces my vacuum time. It is lightweight and easy to carry around. It stores very compactly. Battery life is decent enough as well. Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Downy Ball

Also, another new favorite. Lol 😂 For years, I could NOT figure out how to make my laundry soft. I tried so many different brands and types of fabric softener but to no avail. I had even asked for tips/advice from my mom. (Her laundry is always so buttery soft!) but I could not figure out what I was doing wrong. Just a few months ago, my mom got a new washer and dryer. We were talking about all the new features on her washer and I was once again lamenting the fact that my laundry would not “soften” …( and for the first time in 14 years, 😂) she said, Ok, tell me exactly what you do when you put a load of clothes in. So, I recounted the steps I go through when washing a load of laundry. When I got to the part of adding in the softener, she stopped me. “Where do you add it?” “In the washer,” I said — “Your washer doesn’t have a designated fabric softener slot?” She asked. “No, I didn’t know it was supposed to” I replied. “Well, That’s the problem. When you add it to the washer drum in the beginning, it washes out with all the dirt. When it comes time for the rinse cycle, there is little to no fabric softener left to soften your clothes,” she said! I was flabbergasted! It had never occurred to me that that was the problem. She recommended getting a Downy ball and trying that out. It worked like a charm and now for the first time in over 14 years, my laundry is finally softened! Yay!!

So yeah, if you are like me (and your washer is on the cheaper end and it doesn’t have a fabric softener slot) and you can’t figure out why your clothes won’t soften, just go get you this Downy Ball. It will solve your problem completely !! Lol 😂 Too bad I just learned that tip very belatedly! Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

(So many of my favorite things —-My rug, lamps, bed skirt, bedding, removable throw pillow covers, plaid throw, and faux plant are all visible in this single picture!! 😊👏🏼)

Our master Bedroom Bedding

Comforter set—https://amzn.to/3ptbrnc

I love this comforter. (I hate duvets- I know they are similar in concept to removable throw pillow covers, but every one I have ever owned have always bunched up and never stayed in place)

I wanted a super soft striped comforter to go with our modern farmhouse themed room. I found this one on Amazon and I took a chance on it. I have had it for quite a while. I still love it so much!! It is warm and soft.

Very high quality for an Amazon brand. Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Along the same lines, I also bought this as well…

Bed Skirt

I love the whimsical/slightly boho vibe and the extra dimension/texture that it adds to the room. I also liked that I didn’t have to lift my heavy mattress to put it on. It stretches around your bed. No more trying to get the bed skirt straight and centered and then flopping the mattress down, just to realize the bed skirt is still crooked!! Yay!!

well… I hope you enjoyed taking a little peek into my home and taking a quick glance at some of my favorite things! Let me know down in the comments what your own favorite/“must have” things are !! I would love to see what products/items you find useful in making your house a home !!

(I became an Amazon affiliates associate a couple months ago. However, all the items pictured above and linked are my own personal favorites—things that I have personally tried and loved.

For transparency, as an Amazon Associate, I may earn a very small commission from any qualifying purchases made by clicking on embedded links.

But don’t worry, these affiliate linked posts will be far and few between. I’m not a sale-sy type person! I just wanted to share some of my favorites and I figured linking them via affiliate would be a good idea since I’m sharing them anyway…. And for a stay@home mom, every little bit counts!! Thank you so much!! 😊
